Mary A. (Byser) Nice

Mary Byser Nice, 92, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016.

Mary was an Ohio born child, one of twelve to Slovak immigrants, who thrived to maturity in the great state of West Virginia during the 1920’s and 30’s, when America’s nature was still pure.  Her upbringing was possible only through perseverance and endurance.  Swimming shore to shore across the expansive Ohio River, in spite of her brothers’ boat, she proved her tenacity.  In her younger years, she enjoyed the country music of the times, such as that of the great Johnny Cash.  As a grandmother, she brought levity to all with a quick wit and fun jibes.  Mary also championed a love for the game of baseball.  A 50+ year Philadelphia Phillies fan, she saw them through two World Series championships.  At 92, she fell ONLY when the last of her strength gave way.  May the Lord return her to the waters of the Ohio that she conquered long ago.

Her husband, Harold E. Nice, passed away on January 1, 1992.

Mary is survived by her son, William E. Nice (Linda Kidd); her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda M. and Bernard Duko, and Diane J. and Alfred Romano; her grandchildren, Christine, Bill Jr., Steven (Susan), Brian (Erica), Todd (Alyssa) and Robert (Sarah); her great grandchildren, Jessica, Nicole, Derrick, Victoria and Logan; and her sisters, Margaret, Berta and Alice.

She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Patricia Nice; and her great-grandson, Daniel Romano.

Friends are invited to visit at Holy Rosary Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont on Wednesday, June 29 from 9:30-10:45AM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM.  Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
