Evelyn Astle Crowl Kowal

Evelyn Astle Crowl Kowal, 95 of Newark, DE peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, August 14, 2017.

Evelyn was born in Farmington, MD on April 2, 1922, daughter of the late C. Ellis and Pearl (Tyson) Astle.  A loving and devoted homemaker, she was a talented seamstress and a terrific cook.  She enjoyed traveling, spending time at the beach, and loved being near the ocean.  She was also an avid walker and took pride in going to the gym well into her 90s.  Evelyn was a former Girl Scout Leader and a member of Limestone Presbyterian Church, where she volunteered transporting cancer patients to their treatment appointments. 

Her first husband, S. Clyde Crowl, Jr., passed away in 1962.  She later married Peter Kowal, who passed away in 1997.

Evelyn will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Linda Harrington, Patricia Sigler (Robert) and Barbara Thomas (Barry); her step-son, Steven Kowal; her step-daughter, Susan Soileau; her grandchildren, Beth, Dirk, Paul, John, Aaron, Matthew, Karen, Laura, Nicholas; and her nine great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Myrna, Debbie, Terry and Chaplain Mark of Compassionate Care Hospice for the love and support given to Evelyn.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Monday, August 21 from 10:00-11:30AM.  Funeral services will begin at 11:30AM.  Interment will be held privately in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
