Deborah C. Phipps, 62 of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, with her loving family by her side.

Deb was born in Wilmington, and was the adopted daughter of the late Cole Maynard and Frankie Merritt. She was a graduate of McKean High School and the University of Delaware and earned her Master’s Degree from Widener University. She specialized in marketing and sales, working for a number of different companies during her career: Arco and ATOChem for about 20 years; a short stint with ILC Dover; and most recently with nMetric.

After growing up and spending most of her young adult life in Delaware, she moved to St. Louis for several years to pursue her career. Upon her return to the area, she re-connected with her high school acquaintance, Paul Phipps. They were married in 1996 in Key West, FL and later welcomed their son, Parker. Deborah dedicated her life to raising her son.

She enjoyed all types of music, especially the Beatles; appreciated the classic movies of the 1930’s and 1940’s, “the gray movies”; and was a talented knitter. Deborah left a lasting impact on everyone she met and will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife and mother and a great friend.

Deborah is survived by her husband, Paul Phipps; her son, Parker Phipps; and her sister-in-law, Nancy Maynard; and her stepbrothers, Joe, David, Michael, Irvin and Ronnie Sartin.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Patrick Maynard.

A Celebration of Deborah’s life will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends can visit beginning at 2:00pm. Interment will be private.
