Werner Zorn Obituary

Werner R. Zorn, age 82, passed away peacefully at the Somerford House in Newark, DE, after a near 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born in Pforzheim, Germany, son of the late Richard Zorn, killed in WW2 and Helene Bastian, with whom he immigrated to the US when he was 12 years old, settling in Union, New Jersey. Werner quickly found accolades as an All-State soccer player for Union High School. He then went to New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering while obtaining the title of an All-American soccer player.  He was later inducted to the NJIT Hall of fame for soccer. He then enjoyed a long and successful career as a chemical engineer for National Starch Food Company.

Werner enjoyed playing chess; tending to his rose garden; and enjoyed studying history. He also enjoyed taking trips back to his hometown in Germany and to Hawaii.

He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Scott (Robert); his grandsons, Joshua and Justin; and his sister, Lilo Wolfe.

In addition to his parents, Werner was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Linda (Dudde) Zorn; and his sister, Katherine Dambres and Richard (Junior) Zorn.

Services for Werner will be held privately with his family.
