Stanley E. Zulkowski, age 93, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 11, 2021.
He was born in Wilmington, son of the late Stanley and Mary (Magewnska) Ziolkowski. He was a graduate of Brown Vo-Tech and Springfield College in MA, and served honorably in the US Navy. Stan enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a teacher, coach, and athletic director, beginning at his alma mater, Brown and ultimately concluding at Delcastle High School, where he will be lovingly remembered as “Mr. Z”.
Stan enjoyed taking trips to Cape May and Rehoboth Beach and going on cruises with his late wife, Marie. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, boating and had a knack for gardening.
Stanley is survived by his children, Patricia Zulkowski (Tim Nabal), Catherine Elerksousy, and Sandra Cahalan (James); his grandchildren, Morgan and Allison; his great-granddaughter, Olivia; his siblings, Joseph Ziolkowski (Leona), Franny Deptula (Speedy, deceased), and Pat Boyer (Duke); and several nieces, nephews, and members of his extended family.
In addition to his parents, Stan was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie (Calloway) Zulkowski in 2017; and his sister, Betty Dzielak (Mixie, deceased).
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 11:30am at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 9:30am. Interment will be held in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
