Ruth Ann NeCastro Obituary

Ruth Ann NeCastro, age 81, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 with her loving family by her side.

Born in Germantown, PA, Ruth Ann was the daughter of the late Russell W. and Mary T. (Banner) Carter. She was a graduate of Ursuline Academy Class of 1956, as well as the Franklin School of Science and Arts in Philadelphia, PA. After graduation, Ruth Ann began her career as an x-ray technician at DuPont and later worked at St. Francis and Wilmington General Hospitals. After briefly moving to Florida, love intervened and she moved back to Delaware to marry the love of her life, Anthony R. NeCastro in 1962. After marrying, Ruth Ann loved being a stay at home mom, homemaker and homeroom mom.

Ruth Ann was a loyal and devout Catholic. In earlier years, she was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. In later years, she was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua. She enjoyed volunteering and helping others as a library assistant at Wilmington Manor Elementary School, as well as with Meals on Wheels.

Ruth Ann’s world revolved around her family. She was a loving wife and doting mom and mom-mom, who loved her children and grandchildren more than anything. Ruth Ann was their biggest cheerleader, who was on the sidelines at every event and sports game. From building cardboard box forts to listening to everyone’s problems, she was always there whenever you needed her.

Ruth Ann will be remembered for her love, loyalty and compassion for her family and friends. Ruth Ann loved hosting the holidays and having the family together. She enjoyed cooking and decorating the entire house for the holiday, especially Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. At Christmas, her children treasured their annual tradition of going to church and coming home to find their special gifts of new pajamas from Santa that he left for them on the front porch. Ruth Ann felt birthdays were special and she made everyone’s birthday as special as Christmas.

Through the years, Ruth Ann enjoyed traveling with her family including summer trips to the beach. In her leisure time, Ruth Ann enjoyed going to the casinos in Atlantic City, Delaware Park, and Dover. She also loved to do jigsaw and crossword puzzles, play canasta and watch old movies.

Ruth Ann is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Anthony R. NeCastro; her children, Linda NeCastro-Pastel (Charles), Lisa Bowen (Jeffrey), Susan NeCastro-Hansen (Todd) and Anthony R. NeCastro II (Erin); her grandchildren, Rachel and Ethan Pastel, Isabella and Nicholas Fertitta, Gina Bowen and Nolan and Colton NeCastro; as well three nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Elizabeth Galvin and her nephew, Mark Galvin.
