Marylyn M. (Morris) Heindl

Marylyn Morris Heindl, age 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 8, 2019, with her loving family by her side.

Born and raised in Cottage City, MD, Marylyn was the daughter of the late John Barker and Josephine Cecilia Morris. She was a graduate of St. Cecilia's Academy, as well as the Washington School for Secretaries. Marylyn first worked as a Clerk/Stenographer at the Bureau of Mines in College Park, MD, where she met her future husband, Raymond August Heindl. In 1943, she enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served 2 years during World War II, achieving the rank of Yeoman Second Class. After her service in the Coast Guard, Marylyn returned to work at the Bureau of Mines. In 1949, she married her husband, Raymond, and from then on, Marylyn enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom raising her four children.

Marylyn was always involved in charitable activies. She was very active as a seamstress for St. Camillus Catholic Church in Silver Spring, MD. She sewed vestments, altar cloths, and other items for the Mass. Marylyn also enjoyed sewing for her family, making beautiful draperies and clothes, as well as creating fantastic costumes for her children and the Hillandale Women's Club's programs. Knitting, quilting and needlepoint were also favorite activities.

Marylyn was devoted to her family and loved her sister dearly. She was the hub of the family. Marylyn treasured the annual gatherings at the Heindl family cottage in Wisconsin. She will be remembered for her kind and giving heart and her beautiful smile. In her leisure time, Marylyn was an avid swimmer and reader. She was a great cook, who was known for her Brownie Baked Alaska, and a devoted chocolate lover. Marylyn also loved butterflies.

Marylyn was predeceased by her husband, Raymond August Heindl ; her parents; her sister, Ruth Elizabeth Morris; and her son, John R. Heindl. She is survived by her daughter, Josephine C. Cotterman (C. Daniel); daughter-in-law, Carol M. Knoll (Paul); her sons, Raymond Albert Heindl and William A. “Biff” Heindl (Kristine); her grandsons, Raymond Andrew Heindl (Adrienne), J. Robert Heindl (Megan) and Christopher R. Heindl (Heather); her granddaughters, Fiona M. Knoll, Rebecca L. Knoll and Kaitlyn M. Heindl; as well as seven great grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 11:00 to 11:30 AM on Tuesday, August 13, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 AM in the church. Interment will be held privately at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, MD.
