Maryann (Megee) Weeks

Maryann Weeks, age 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 19, 2021 after a brief illness.

Born in Wilmington, DE, Maryann was the daughter of the late Elbert and Edith Megee. Before retiring, she worked as a cafeteria aide at Warner Elementary School for over ten years. Maryann was a longtime parishioner at St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, where she was active with Sodality and the Carnival in earlier years.

Family was the center of Maryann’s life. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her world. Maryann treasured the annual family vacations to Ocean City, MD, where she enjoyed going to the Boardwalk and people watching, as well as going to the car shows. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, Robert, to Niagara Falls and Canada many times through the years.

Maryann was an amazing cook, who was known for her turkey dinners at the holidays. Her favorite holidays were Christmas, where she loved going shopping for family gifts, and Halloween, where she was known to dress up to give out candy. She was known for her over-the-top decorating with her holiday knick knacks.

In her leisure time, Maryann loved watching horror movies and game shows, the Hallmark Channel. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Maryann also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and adult coloring books.

Maryann is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Robert J. Weeks; her children, Teresa Weeks, Robert A. Weeks (Karen), Helen Martin, Marie Weeks (Carl Fisher), Ann Robertson (Randy), Jane Weeks (Lenny Lewis), Kathleen Wood (Mark) and Judy Weeks-Sywy; her twenty grandchildren; her twenty-nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Gracie Megee; and her brother-in-law, Joseph Weeks (Donna). She is also survived by her beloved dog, Shep. Maryann was predeceased by her parents; her son-in-law, Jeffrey Sywy; and her three siblings.

Family and friends may visit from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, July 22 at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, July 23 at St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, 809 S. Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19805. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
