Mary Kay (Mentel) Sullivan

Mary Kay Sullivan, age 79, of Newark, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 19, 2018 with her loving family by her side.

Born in Detroit, MI, Mary Kay was the daughter of the late Jonas E. and Emogene M. (Kay) Mentel. She was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School in Wyandotte, MI, before briefly attending Bowling Green University and Rider College. Before retiring in 1993, Mary Kay was an IT Support Specialist with DuPont, Inc. for 14 years.

Family was the center of Mary Kay's world. Grandma Kay especially loved doting on her nine grandchildren. She treasured family gatherings at the beach and spending the holidays together. Mary Kay was the glue that kept the family together. She will be remembered for her quiet strength, great conversations and positive and optimistic spirit.

In her leisure time, Mary Kay was very active doing yoga and walking. She loved going to lunch with her friends in the Glasgow DuPont Lunch Crew. Mary Kay was a great cook, who made the best ziti ever. She was an avid reader, especially of historical fiction novels. In earlier years, Mary Kay enjoyed knitting, crocheting and playing bridge. She was also an Detroit Lions fan.

Mary Kay is survived by her sons, John F. Sullivan (Jeanne), James F. Sullivan (Kathy) and Dan E. Sullivan (Karen); her daughter, Sherry L. Haberlein (Paul D.); her nine grandchildren; as well as her brother, Ron Mentel (Diane). She was predeceased by her parents and her companion of 30 years, Roger Earley.

Family and friends may visit from 10 to 11 AM on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808, where a Funeral Service will begin at 11 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
