Mary L. (Maccari) Hammed, 84, of Wilmington, Delaware peacefully passed away on Monday, January 13, 2020.
Mary was born in Wilmington on August 19, 1935, one of eleven children of the late Guiseppe and Antonia Maccari. Prior to raising her four children, she worked for the Bell Telephone Company and the DuPont Company. In 1979, Mary and her husband, Norman moved to Henderson, Nevada, where she re-entered the workforce as a cashier with the Horseshoe Casino. She returned to Delaware in 2005.
Her beloved husband of 43 years, Norman Hammed, passed away on May 14, 1999. She was also predeceased by her ten siblings.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her children, Sharon White (Jamie), Linda George (Michael), N. Gene Hammed, Jr. (Kelly) and Monica Hammed; her grandchildren, Kara Schilling (Brian), Eric White, Joseph White (Katie), Michael White (Candace), Danielle Silliman (Jesse), Kristy Diaz (Giovanni) and Lori Hammed; her great grandchildren, Harrison, Olivia, Rhys, Madison, Charlotte and Hudson. In addition, she is survived by her sisters-in-law, Sue Hammed, Phyllis Correll, Jeanette Maccari, Kathy Maccari and Janet Hammed; several nieces and nephews.
Mary also loved her “grand-pets”.
Friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Friday, January 17 from 10:00-11:00AM, immediately followed by a Memorial Service.
