Margaret "Peggy" Bachman Obituary

Margaret (Peggy) Haynie Bachman age 94, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022. She was born on Easter Sunday, April 17, 1927 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Margaret (Davis) Haynie and G. Wallace Haynie Sr.

When Peggy was an infant, the family relocated to Wilmington, Delaware. She graduated from Henry C. Conrad High School where she met her husband, Carlton Bachman. Peggy was a telephone operator while in high school and was known as “the voice with a smile girl” and voted “prettiest girl”. She and Carlton were married upon his return from WWII and celebrated their 66th anniversary before he passed.

Peggy was beautiful inside and out, extremely generous, funny, smart, feisty, and strong. She loved spending her childhood Summers in Fleeton and Reedville, VA with her grandparents. Her family lovingly called her “Queen Bee”. She was an excellent cook. She loved to laugh, go shopping, dine at restaurants, visit casinos, spend time at Delaware beaches, lunches with “The Bank Girls”, Conrad reunions and she and Carlton enjoyed countless good times and vacations with Wally and Johann and dear friends, the Conly's, the Gooding’s and the Kauffman’s.

She was a lifelong member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church where she also taught Sunday school. Peggy worked for Delaware Trust and retired as an Assistant manager after 30 years. After her retirement, she enjoyed being a Meals on Wheels volunteer with her friend, Joan Conly.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Karen Rosica (George) of Leland, North Carolina, Michael Bachman (Dorothy) of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, Sherry Louth of Wilmington, Delaware, 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and her sisters-in-law, Johann Haynie and Mary Julian (Paul). She was predeceased by her husband Carlton in 2011 and her brother, G. Wallace (Wally) Haynie, who passed away just three days before her on January 4th.

A funeral service will be held on February 2, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 2800 Duncan Road, Wilmington, DE. Friends may visit at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear. Masks are required for all guests.
