Margaret Zumsteg Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" (Weibler) Zumsteg peacefully passed full of grace and love through the gates of Heaven on June 25, 2022, at age 90.

Born in Chicago, IL, Peggy worked as a registered nurse before marrying her husband of 58 years, Richard "Dick" Zumsteg (d. 2012), whose work took them to Missouri and Texas before setting down roots in Wilmington, DE, for over 50 years. Encouraging and caring, Peggy raised seven wonderful children who enjoyed her great cooking and baking, especially on birthdays when they got their favorite cake or pie...after finishing dinner, of course!

Known for giving selflessly to others, Peggy volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and council member (Chesapeake Bay), and as a CFP teacher, choir member, and Eucharistic minister for Resurrection Parish in Pike Creek.

A lifelong learner and true "super senior", Peggy was giddy as a (literal) schoolgirl when she graduated cum laude from the University of Delaware with a B.S. in Nursing at age 67. Peggy knew the value of taking time to smell the roses that she grew in her patio, and to enjoy other favorite things like The Sound of Music, playing bridge with neighbors, sipping iced tea in the sun, reading mystery books, and traveling. For her final life's adventures, Peggy exchanged family stories and many nickels with new friends at Linden Ponds in Hingham, MA.

Affectionately known as "Snow White" at home, Peggy is celebrated by her seven "Dwarves" and their partners in love & life: "Bashful" James, "Sleepy" Philip (Janice), "Doc" Thomas (Gerry Lynn Zarrilli), "Sneezy" Mary (Jeff Mangan), "Happy" Anne (Mark Heersema), "Dopey" David (Mia), and "Grumpy" Karen. "GramZ" delightedly sent greeting cards to her multi-talented grandchildren (13) and greatgrandchildren (3 soon to be 4!). Peggy is also survived by her siblings Barb Silagi, Kay Brown Dana, and Philip (Barbara) Weibler, as well as an abundance of loving nieces, nephews, and lifetime friends. Peggy was excited to reunite with her devoted dog Suzabelle (d. 2019).

A memorial service will be held at a later date, with interment in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington, DE. Peggy loves flowers, but the Dwarves believe she'd suggest contributions to the Outreach Program at Resurrection Parish, 3000 Videre Dr., Wilmington, DE 19808, or the NVNA Pat Roche Hospice Home, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061. But if you'd like to send flowers, we encourage you to send them to someone whose day needs brightening. We believe Peggy's spirit will rejoice that she inspired you to share joy with another.
