Lyle T. Skelton, Jr., age 78, of Hockessin, DE, formerly of Georgetown, DE, passed away on June 5, 2020 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE.
Born in Penns Grove, NJ in December of 1941, he was the son of the late Lyle T. Skelton, Sr. and Bertha May Skelton (Sparks). Lyle joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and he served from 1958 through 1964. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Lyle worked as a Production Technician at the DuPont Chambers Works. He retired in 1993.
Lyle enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, and was an active member of the American Legion Oak Orchard/Riverdale Post 28 in Millsboro, DE.
Along with his parents, Lyle was predeceased by his son, Brian Skelton. Lyle is survived by his loving wife, Helen Skelton, of Hockessin, DE. He’s also survived by his children, Michael Skelton of Los Angeles, CA and Kelli Green (David) of Pennsville, NJ; his stepchildren, Doreen Earnest (Adam) of Hockessin, DE, Holly Wood of Dagsboro, DE, Pamela Powers of Swoope, VA and George Zieber, Jr. of Pennsville, NJ; his sister, Mildred Taylor (Otis) of Georgetown, DE; and his 11 grandchildren.
Due to the current restrictions regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, services for Lyle will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lyle’s name to the American Legion Post 28, 31768 Legion Road, Millsboro, DE 19966.
