Karen Elaine Starr

Karen E. Starr, age 67 of Bear, Delaware, passed away unexpectedly on Monday April 18, 2022. 

Born on February 6, 1955 in Wilmington, Delaware to the late William J. and Irene Gorski (Pielechowicz), Karen was a lifelong resident of Delaware and a 1973 graduate of Saint Elizabeth’s High School where she achieved salutatorian.  After graduating from high school, Karen attended the University of Delaware and graduated with her bachelor’s degree in 1977.  Karen met her husband and love of her life Joe and together the couple married on June 24, 1978 at Saint Elizabeth’s Church.   Together the couple has spent the last 44 wonderful years together and raised their son Jeffrey. 

When not tending to her family where she was the “backbone”, Karen could be found traveling with her husband and son to Disney, Montana or cruising the high seas. Some of her fondest memories included family holidays and cooking.

Karen achieved her Certified Public Accountant designation and served as a partner with Santora, Starr and Baffone where she served for many years before joining the Federal Government as an accountant. 

Karen will be deeply missed by her beloved husband Joseph Starr; her son Jeffrey Starr; Brother Gary Gorski (Marie) of Folsom, California and her sister Lynn Czech (John) of New Castle, Delaware; her beloved dog Tess, along with a host of many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Karen is preceded in death by her sister Gail Gorski.

The family will accept friends and guests on Thursday May 5, 2022 from 10am-11am at the Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church located at Cedar and South Clayton Street in Wilmington, Delaware. A Funeral Mass will begin promptly at 11am. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Karen’s honor to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital.
