James C. "Jigger" Giles, Sr.

James C. Giles Sr., lovingly known as Jigger, passed away suddenly on October 10th, 2021, at the age of 59. Born on February 15, 1962, in Wilmington, DE. He was the middle of 5 children born to the late John and Charlotte Giles. 

Jigger was a life member of the Elsmere Fire Company. Joining in 1977 at the age of 15 as a junior member. Holding the title of junior chief. During his 44 years as a member, he served on numerous committees and a junior advisor. Best known as the Elsmere Fire Co. softball coach.

Jigger was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Anyone who knew him, knew his Sundays were dedicated to the Cowboys. He served as a board of director at the New Castle County Irish Society where he won the Erin Award in 2014. Known as the cook for many of the functions held at NCCIS including the ham and cabbage dinner. He was also a member of Stapler A.A.

Jigger met the love of his life, Sharon, in 1987. The two wed on October 21, 1989 and enjoyed 32 loving years together. Parents to three wonderful children. 

He is proceeded in death by his parents John and Charlotte Giles; his nieces, Amanda Giles, Erin Giles, and Mikenna DiIenno; and his nephew, Dominic DiIenno.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children, Courtney, James Jr, and Sean;  his brothers, John (Laura) Giles, David (Pam) Giles, William (Lisa) Giles, and Patrick (Mary) Giles; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Staci (Mike) DiIenno and Keith (April) Stockman; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles (Diane) Stockman; his uncles Jimmy (Janice) Giles and George (Kathy) Giles; and  his aunts, Alice (Nicky) DiBiaso and Sharon (Rob) Gray. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a great-nephew on the way.

All throughout his life, he was there to help others and he continues to do so in death through the Gift of Life Donor Program.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, October 17th, 2021 from 2-4pm at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 18th, 2021 at 10am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church,  905 New Rd., Wilmington, DE 19805. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery.
