James Stevenson Obituary

James R. Stevenson, age 72, of Wilmington, DE, passed away at Christiana Hospital on Sunday, May 9, 2021. Jim was born on March 17, 1949 in Wilmington, DE.

He is predeceased by his parents, John J. Stevenson, Sr. and Ellen R. Stevenson; his step mother, Dorothy C. Stevenson; and his brother, John J. Stevenson, Jr. He is survived by his son, Jason, and his brother, Richard and his wife, Melanie, and eight nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of St. Elizabeth’s High School, the University of Delaware (BA), and received a Juris Doctor (JD) and a Master of Law in Corporate Law and Finance (LLM) from Delaware Law School with studies in international law in England. Jim served on active duty for 3 years with the US Army JAG Corps as an administrative law attorney specializing in government contracts. Jim spent 10 years in the Delaware Army National Guard and received a direct commission from SGT, E-5 to 1LT and also served 11 years in the US Army Reserves. He was retired from the US Army Reserve with a rank of Major. He was also appointed as a State of Delaware Justice of the Peace.

After leaving the US Army, he specialized in government contracts and then focused on international technology service agreements. Jim spent many years working and living in the Middle East and Europe for several multinational corporations and specialized in international contracts, negotiations and legal affairs. He resided for a total of 8 years in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and Prague, Czech Republic with numerous assignments in Africa. Jim also traveled extensively in Africa and Europe. He enjoyed his Corvettes, sailing on the Chesapeake in his sailboat and international traveling.

The Stevenson family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at Med ICU and Season’s Hospice for all of their loving and compassionate care offered to Jim and their family.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 10am. Private interment will be held at Delaware Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE.
