Hugh Edward Curran

Hugh Edward Curran, age 58, of Avondale, PA and formerly of Wilmington, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021, after a battle with cancer. 

He was born in Wilmington, son of the late Hugh E. and Ruth (Parks) Curran. He was a graduate of St. Mark’s High School and received both his undergraduate and MBA degrees from the University of Delaware. 

Hugh enjoyed a 20+ year career with MBNA and his background in finance propelled him to go on and serve as CFO for a variety of organizations in the transportation sector, namely DelDOT, Denver International Airport, and Philadelphia International Airport. He also served on the Board of Trustees for the Delaware College of Art and Design. 

He was an avid fan of UD Football and enjoyed music, reading and learning about history. He loved classic cars, enjoyed golf and taking trips to the beach. Above all else, he cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. As he always said, “it’s the little things”. 

Hugh is survived by his wife, Mary (McAvoy) Curran; his daughters, Alison (Alex Baffa), Maggie (Tim Weeks), and Jillian; his brother, Shawn Curran (Terri); and a large circle of extended family and friends who he loved dearly. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on June 4th  at The Church of the Holy City, 118 N. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19806, where family and friends may visit beginning at 9 am. Interment will be private. Hugh loved really bright colors. At his family’s request, please wear a cheerfully colored outfit to celebrate his life.
