Gloria Manubay Obituary

Gloria Rafferty Manubay, 75, of Hockessin, Delaware passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021.  Born in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania on June 15, 1946, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Phyllis (Braund) Rafferty.

Gloria earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Delaware and Master’s Degree in Education from West Chester University and was an elementary school teacher at Lore and Warner Schools.  She was a devout Catholic for her adult life centered at St. Ann Parish, where she dedicated much of her time and talent, and treasured the many friendships she made.  She and her late husband, Sancho, enjoyed traveling, time at their condo in Ocean City, Maryland and their time-share in the Bahamas.  A testament to her faith and love was the care that she gave Sancho by providing him constant care at home through declining health. Throughout their life, Gloria and Sancho shared a love of dogs, with their Scottish Terriers, Brit, Mr. O’Malley, Skye, Ceili and Keara, along with their Westie, Mr. MacKenzie, enriching their home.

Gloria was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dr. Sancho A. Manubay, Jr., who passed away on August 27, 2020.  She was also predeceased by her brother, Dennis Rafferty; and her sister, Carole Rafferty Mitchell.

Gloria is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Nicholas “Bob”  and Joann Rafferty; sister-in-law, Camille Rafferty; her nephews, Kevin Rafferty (Audrey), Scott Rafferty and Craig Rafferty (Carolyn); her niece, Kerry Rafferty O’Connell (Patrick); her great nephews and nieces; and by beloved Manubay family members.

The family extends their grateful appreciation to the St. Ann RC Church community, to Father Jasper and Father Mink who befriended her and nourished her spiritual life, and to NaCole Evans, her caregiver who provided care, support and friendship to both Gloria and Sancho throughout their last years.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 1900 Delaware Avenue, Wilmington on Monday, October 11 from 9:30-10:30AM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann Church, Gilpin Avenue and Union Street at 11:00AM.  A private interment service will follow.
