G. Wallace "Wally" Haynie

G. Wallace “Wally” Haynie, age 92, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.  

Wally was born in Wilmington, son of the late G. Wallace and Margaret (Davis) Haynie and served honorably in the US Navy aboard the tanker, U.S.S. Merrimac. Upon his discharge, Wally was then employed for 36 years with Delmarva Power. 

Wally cherished and found joy in the time he spent with his family including summers in Fenwick Island, and trips to Myrtle Beach.  He enjoyed sports and spent many years playing baseball and softball in several leagues.  Wally was an avid Phillies, Orioles and Eagles fan. He also volunteered for 20 years, delivering meals for Meals on Wheels. 

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 66 years, Johann (Fiorelli) Haynie; his children, Brian Haynie (Mary) and Jill Lewis (Mark); his son-in-law, Dave Bower; his 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  

In addition to his parents, Wally was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynne Bower; his grandson, Benjamin Haynie; and 2 great-grandsons. His sister, Margaret Bachman, passed away 3 days later on January 7, 2022. 

The family would like to thank the nurses at Christiana Care 5A (5395) for their excellent care and compassion.

Services for Wally will be held privately with his family.
