Faris Lee Worthington of Wilmington, DE passed away suddenly of cancer on February 1, 2018.
He was born on June 16, 1946 to Samuel M. and Virginia M. Worthington in Baltimore and raised there. He attended Baltimore Friends School and graduated from Swarthmore College with a degree in mathematics. He then enlisted in the US Army and served honorably with US forces in Germany. Upon separation, he enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he earned first an MSE(EE) degree from the Moore School of Electrical Engineering and then an MBA from The Wharton School of Business.
Upon graduation, he joined DuPont and worked in a corporate-level industrial process analysis group until his retirement in 1993.
Faris next joined Blaze Systems. He continued working on and off for Blaze until his passing.
Faris married Donna M. Ricks on April 28, 2004, and they lived with the children from her previous marriage, Ryan Marie Allen, and Matthew Ricks, while they completed school.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Ricks; his step-daughter, Ryan Allen, and her children, Robbie and Reese; his step-son, Matthew Ricks; his brother, Samuel M. Worthington III (Helen); his niece, Michela Worthington-Adams (Brian); his nephew, Samuel M. Worthington IV (Melissa); and a grand-niece and a grand-nephew, all of whom will miss him tremendously.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 2:00 – 3:00pm at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, to share in remembrances in celebration of Faris’s life.
