Ethel Ruth (Hobbs) Romano

Ethel R. Romano, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 17, 2019. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Verna Hobbs; 7 siblings; and her husband of 57 years, Joseph H. Romano.  A lifelong resident of Wilmington, she worked at Hearn’s Restaurant for many years. Her happiest times were spent around the kitchen table with her sister and best friend, Eva Murphy, and their families. Ethel was a great cook and enjoyed preparing her Italian specialties and chicken and dumplings for all to enjoy.  Most of all she was a devoted mother to her son, Joey.  

Her last years were spent at Genesis Healthcare/Brackenville Center.  The family would like to thank the staff for the years of kind and compassionate care. To pass the time, she enjoyed television, was a loyal fan of the Kardashians, and had a special love for President Obama and VP Joe Biden. She had a continued interest in political newscasts and loved to watch the Phillies.

Ethel is survived by her son, Joseph A. Romano (Gloria); grandsons, Zaid Romano, Bart Romano, and Jerry Zhang; niece, Sharon Brasure (caregiver); great-nephews, Eric Murphy and Andrew Brasure; nephews, Michael Feret (Holly), Elmer Hobbs (Naomi), and Frank Romano (Fran); and many other nieces and nephews.

A committal service will be held in the chapel of Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19805 at 11:00am on Friday, January 25, 2019.
