Elizabeth Connor Obituary

Elizabeth Jane Curran Connor, 84, of Wilmington, DE quietly departed this world, for Eternity after a long illness on Tuesday, July 3rd, 2018, with her loving son, John holding tightly to her hand. Throughout her life she was faithful to God, her Roman Catholic Faith, and her family. Mrs. Connor was a great lady, a fine woman, the best wife, the greatest, most Beloved Mother, and an utmost professional throughout her business career. She was filled with an infinite capacity for love, intelligence, kindness, logic, and generosity. If she could help, she would.

Mrs. Connor was born and raised in Wilmington, DE, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Francis M. Curran, where she was one of thirteen children. Growing-up, she experienced the joys, trials and tribulations, of a loving family and the familial bonds which would, in her precious heart and imagination, never separate her from her parents and siblings, holding them close to her Soul, no matter the difficulties and distance. Mrs. Connor remained steadfastly committed her entire life, to her family and held each of her siblings in great love and esteem, especially during the last few years of her life as they pre-deceased her. Three, just in the past few years, which saddened her greatly.

Mrs. Connor enjoyed the happiest of Marriages with John P. Connor, the love of her life, a WWII USN Veteran, whom she lost to Cancer in 1992, far too young. As a Widow, during the subsequent twenty-six years, she was beyond extraordinary, mourning him, but continuing with her life, confident in her Faith of being reunited with her Beloved. Their love and happiness with each other was remarkable to behold, of which their son counts himself the luckiest of children to have been a part.

Mrs. Connor possessed an indomitable work ethic, working her entire life, from the time she was 16 years old. Upon graduation from High School, she was employed first by DP&L, then for the majority of her career at the DUPONT Company from which she retired in 1991 to look-after her ailing husband. After her husband's death and, a few years of a leisurely life, she missed working and opted to return to the workforce, taking a Part-Time position in the office of the local Non-Profit, ELWYN, where she remained until 2011.

Mrs. Connor was an avid and passionate reader, particularly Christian, American and, British Royal History. For years, she focused upon the Genealogy of the British Royal Family, as well as, that of her own family. She relished a well-crafted Murder Mystery, and many said she, herself, would have made a great sleuth. Since childhood, she was expert at complicated puzzles. In addition to a passion for books, Mrs. Connor was quite the Film Buff, enjoying selections from the "Golden Age" straight through the present. Her personal hobbies included collecting Dolls and Christmas Decorations, with a special emphasis upon Vintage and new ornaments, which she began amassing as an adolescent. Being a spectacular cook, she very much enjoyed entertaining and travel. She traveled to many places in the United States, as well as abroad and London was a fave.

Mrs. Connor will be sadly missed by all those who knew her well, for her towering strength, honesty, integrity, courage, humility, ability to maintain a confidence, compassion, interest in people and encouraging them to do well in life. Yet, she herself, would desire no one to be sad, as she left this world for a happier place, where she would be reunited with her husband, her family, and all the historical figures she hoped to meet. Her greatest wish was for everyone to respect and love each other and cherish the Gift of Life given to us by God, both the one here and the one beyond.

Mrs. Connor is survived by her son, John of Wilmington, DE; her sister, Rose Ewing of Stewart, FL; her brother, Anthony Curran of Lewisville, TX; a sister in Newark, DE; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to her viewing at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and DuPont Streets, Wilmington on Wednesday, July 11 from 11:00-11:45AM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00PM, followed by entombment in Cathedral Cemetery.
