Edward Deely, age 87, died at home on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Ed/Eddie/Ned was born on September 24, 1934 in Peterswell, Co. Galway, Ireland, to the late John Deely and Kate Loughrey Deely. Ed came to the United States in September 1956. He served in the US Army shortly after arriving from Ireland. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish and worked for DuPont for over 30 years.
Ed was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved gardening, fishing, dancing, watching his grandchildren in all of their sporting endeavors, the Phillies, and Bethany Beach. Ed also loved to travel, especially visiting his family and friends in Ireland.
Ed is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann; his four children, Mary D. Kane and her husband, John, Ann M. Glavin and her husband, Maurice, David P. Deely and his wife, Suzanne, and Carol B. McLaughlin and her husband, Ciaran; his grandchildren, Jack Kane and his wife, Jen, Grace & Elizabeth Kane, Eamon, Seamus & Pearse Glavin, and Patrick, Andrew & Brighid Deely. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Crossan of London, England; his brother, Christy Deely; sisters-in-law Teresa, Irene and Mary; cousin, Eamonn of Galway, Ireland; and numerous nieces and nephews in Ireland, England and the United States. Ed was predeceased by his brothers, Paddy, Jonnie, Fred, and Mike; and sisters, Mary Ann Kelleher, Bridie Kearney, Anne Igo, and Margaret Diffley.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Sunday, June 5, 2022, from 3:00 – 5:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00pm on Monday, June 6, 2022, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 2503 Centerville Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery.
