Doris L. "Dottie" Bounds

Doris L. “Dottie” Bounds, age 94, of Middletown, DE passed away on Friday, October 25, 2019.

In the late 1950’s Dottie discovered her passion for teaching dance to children. She opened Dottie’s Dance Studio in the Meadowood Shopping Center in Newark. Hundreds of student’s enjoyed classes in ballet, tap, jazz, baton and acrobatics. They always looked forward to performing in the spring recitals, wearing beautiful costumes and dancing on the “big” stage.

Ms. Dottie’s elite “Meadowette” dancers performed for many summers on the Steel Pier in Atlantic City, N.J.  After a brief retirement, Dottie opened another successful business in 1977, The Dance Bag, a specialty retail shop selling dance supplies. In 1987, her daughter Sharon took ownership and the store remained open for 40 years.

Dottie was predeceased by her husband, S. Edward Bounds. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Sharp (Don), her grandsons, Christopher and Kevin Sharp and her great granddaughter, Jocelyn.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 31 from 10-11 am at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek followed by a funeral service at 11. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery.
