David Mahaney Obituary

David George Mahaney, of Greenville, Delaware and Spencer, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024 in his home, surrounded by his family.

Dave was born May 9, 1942 in Worcester, MA. He graduated from The College of the Holy Cross in 1963. He was married to the love of his life, Gerry, for 59 years and together they had three children and eight grandchildren.

Dave’s life was defined by his service in the Air Force, a thirty year career in business and finally, his retirement back in Spencer. Everyone would agree, his retirement years were his favorite ones. While in Spencer, he was honored to coach the Holy Cross girls golf team, thrilled to teach snowboarding at Mt. Wachusett; and enjoyed the pursuit of scoring his age on the golf course. His grandchildren would all agree that his favorite time was when they were visiting and together they went inner tubing, participated in a family triathlon, hung out on the dock, reviewed report card grades, pulled weeds and made s’mores.

He is survived by his wife, Gerry; his three children, Mike (Karen) Mahaney, Michelle Scott, and Patrick Mahaney (Phil Hammond); and his grandchildren, Michael Mahaney Jr., Allison Scott, Billie Mahaney, David Scott, Sean Mahaney, Erin Scott, Kelly Mahaney, and Brendan Mahaney; sister, Martha (Fred); brothers, Joe (Celeste) and John (Jeri).

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Connie Mahaney; his sister-in-law, Michelle (Jewell) Mahaney; his sister, Madeline (Dan) Dudley; and his son-in-law, Brad Scott.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, April 4th, 2024 from 9:00-9:45AM at St. Joseph’s on the Brandywine, 10 Old Church Road, Wilmington, DE 19807. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00AM. Burial will be at a later date in Massachusetts.

The family would like to thank the nurses, aides and staff at Country House. The selfless care, love and respect they showed our family was remarkable in our time of need. We hope Dave’s spirit continues to linger in their smiles as they remember his favorite saying “If you see a person without a smile, give them one of yours.”
