Charles J (Jack) McLaughlin III, 92, died July 3, 2023, after an illness of 2 months. He was born on May 14, 1931, in St. John, New Brunswick, to Charles J and Marion (Crouch) McLaughlin. Jack served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1956 and subsequently worked for DuPont as a chemist for 35 years, retiring in 1992.
He and his wife were active in showing and breeding Airedale Terriers for 50 years, and became early members of the Airedale Terrier Club of Greater Philadelphia. He was known in dog circles as “Mr. Macknyfe”, having designed, produced, and sold a well-regarded tool for grooming wire-haired terriers under the name Macknyfe Specialties.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, his daughter and her wife, his sister and brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will all miss his strength, generosity, and humor immensely. He was predeceased by his parents and his younger brother.
Visitation will take place at 10:30 am on Wednesday, July 12, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am, at St Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Jack’s name to Airedale Rescue and Adoption of Delaware Valley, 115 Locksley Rd, Glen Mills, PA 19342.
