Carol Lillard Banz

Carol Lillard Banz, 78, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love in Newark, Delaware on November 12, 2022.  She was born and raised in Downingtown, PA on February 4, 1944.

Carol had a zest for life. She was smart, kind, and had a passion for education. She had many close friendships and loved spending time with her family, fellow educators, book club, neighbors and the mermaids at Oakwood Valley.

Carol received two degrees from West Chester University – a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1966 and a Master of Education in Educational Media in 1972.  Carol spent most of her career teaching in the Red Clay Consolidated School District at both Richardson Park and Heritage Elementary Schools.

Carol retired in 2010 and continued her love of teaching at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware. An avid reader, she led classes on the New Yorker magazine.

Carol is predeceased by her husband, Frank, of 39 years; her parents; and her brother, Bob.

Carol is survived by her loving partner, Richard Benjamin; her daughter, Teri Neild (Brian); her granddaughter, Annabella; her son, Frank; her sister, Mary Jean; and her nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 6-9PM at Harry’s Savoy in Wilmington, Delaware. Family and friends are invited to dance to her favorite music and share fond memories.
