Betty (Fenton) Leslie

Betty Leslie, 72, of Newark, Delaware passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 27, 2021.  Thought of as an angel by so many, she will be dearly missed.

Betty was born in Wilmington on August 6, 1949, the daughter of the late Charles and Beatrice Fenton.  She was a graduate of Brown Vocational High School and went on to become a nurse.  She began at Wilmington Hospital, but spent most of her career providing care and assistance to those afflicted with drug and alcohol addiction. 

Betty had a heart of gold.  She was always there to help anyone in need, and was always the first person you called when you needed a good listener.  She had so many cherished friendships.  Some of her favorite things included boat rides with family, a love of fishing, trips to the casino, her lunch and shopping outings with her “girls”. 

Betty’s greatest joy came from spending time with family.  She was the most devoted wife and mother anyone could ask for.  Her grandchildren were her pride and joy – whether they were on an overnight trip to Lancaster or sitting at home, if she was spending time with them, she was smiling.  She will always be remembered for her thoughtfulness and caring nature. 

In addition to her parents, she was sadly predeceased by her son, Michael Leslie, who passed away on December 8, 2003; as well as her brother, Charles Fenton.

Betty will be dearly missed by her husband of 47 years, John F. Leslie; her children, John Leslie and Rebecca George (R.J.); her beloved grandchildren, Ethan, Kyle, Hailey, Gianna and Soleil; several aunts, cousins, extended family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Tuesday, August 31 from 11:00AM-12:00PM, with a brief funeral service immediately following.  Interment will be held privately for the immediate family in Silverbrook Cemetery.
