Audrey Mae (Baughn) Cox

Audrey Mae Cox, age 89, of Hockessin, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 5, 2018 with her loving family by her side.

Born in Wilmar, CA, Audrey Mae was the daughter of the late George and Surilda (Webster) Baughn. Raised in Arkansas, she graduated from Doniphan High School. In 1959, Audrey Mae and her husband, A.J., moved to Delaware, where they began a successful automotive business, Cox Auto Sales, as well as many real estate ventures. Through the years, Audrey Mae was the bookkeeper for all of the family businesses.

Audrey Mae enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children. She was a talented seamstress, who made draperies and clothing for herself and her children, and an excellent cook known for her homemade dinner rolls. Audrey Mae was a longtime member of Cedars Church of Christ, where she worked in the food pantry and was a Sunday school and Vacation Bible school teacher.

Family was the most important part of Audrey Mae’s life, from spending the holidays together to making sure they were always taken care of. She will be remembered for her unconditional love, her pureness in heart and her devotion to her family and her faith.

In her leisure time, Audrey Mae loved to read, especially love stories and Amish novels. She was a talented pianist, who loved to play all the old classic hymns, and listening to gospel music. Audrey Mae also enjoyed researching genealogy.

Audrey Mae was predeceased by her beloved husband of 67 ½ years, Aubrey J. “A.J.” Cox; her parents, as well as her sisters, Fern Baughn, Faye Hawkins, and Wanda Maddox. She is survived by her sons, Doyle K. Cox (Jamie) of Hockessin, DE and Glenn A. Cox ( Virginia) of Cotter, AR; her daughters, Carol A. Stephano of Hockessin, DE and Donna K. Brady (Kirk) of Doniphan, MO; as well as her 11 grandchildren, Chopper, Kendra, Rachel, Vinnie, Brandon, Aaron, Austin, Felicity, Gwendolyn, Julianne and Michaela; her 9 great grandchildren, Hailey, Aiden, Gerard, Justin, Giavanna, Ofelia, Zander, Zavier, and Brady and 2 great-great grandchildren, Tristan and Anthony.

Family and friends may visit from 11 AM to 12 Noon on Friday, August 10 at Cedars Church of Christ, 511 Greenbank Rd., Wilmington, DE, where a Celebration of Mae’s Life will begin at 12 Noon. Interment will be held at a later date in Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cedars Church of Christ.
