Mortimer G. Thompson, Jr., age 90, of Newark, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 11, 2018.
He was born in Knoxville, TN, son of the late Mortimer G. and Celeste (Condon) Thompson, Sr., and was a graduate of Vanderbilt University. He served honorably in the US Army during WWII, and enjoyed a successful sales career with DuPont.
Mortimer was involved with various groups as his children grew, whether it was cub scouts, CCD, or coaching sports teams. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing trips to the family’s cabin in Lac Poisson Blanc, Quebec, Canada, and annual summer vacation camping trips to the Delaware beaches.
He is survived by his children, Bud Thompson (Sandy), Kathy Garrett (Bob), Elizabeth Klein (Michael), Jean Rahaim (Andrew), James Thompson (Karen), Robert Thompson, Sissy McKee, and John Thompson (Gretchen); 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mortimer was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ellen (Wilson) Thompson; and his sister, Anne Brackman.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit at 11:30am. Interment will be held in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
