Margaret E. Bartels, 88, of Wilmington, DE peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on Monday, July 9, 2018.
Upon graduating from A.I. duPont High School in 1947, Peg entered the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing, became a registered nurse in 1950 and began her career as a public health nurse for two years. Peg returned to Delaware Hospital and became the head nurse in the premature nursery, a position she held until her marriage to Charles Bartels in 1955. After raising her family, Peg returned to her career in nursing, first working part time at a local nursing home, a substance rehabilitation center, and lastly a private doctor’s office until permanently retiring in 1987. She was a longtime, active member of Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church.
Her husband, Charles Bartels, passed away in 2006.
Peg is survived by her four sons, Chuck, Jeff and wife, Nancy, Jerry and wife, Karen, and Eric; her step daughter, Susan Lodge and husband, Kenneth; three grandchildren, CJ, Christopher and Andrew; three step grandchildren, Jonas and Douglas Lodge, Matt Schneiders; and two step great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church, 101 Old Kennett Pike, Wilmington on Saturday, July 14 at 11:00AM.
