Judith Anne Smith, age 77, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018 with her loving family by her side.
Born in Boston, MA, Judy was the daughter of the late Joseph Aloysius and Marida Lena (Laney) Moran. She graduated from Fontbonne Academy Class of 1958, as well as Bridgewater State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Math and Science. Before retiring, Judy was a teacher at Albert Einstein Academy for over 20 years. She was also a math tutor and substitute teacher at McKean High School for many years.
Judy was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Church. She also attended bible study at Red Clay Presbyterian Church.
Family was the center of Judy’s world. She was the defender and caregiver of her family. There was no better Mother and Meme’ for her grandkids. She would do anything and everything for her grandkids.
Along with her husband, Judy loved to travel extensively all over the United States and internationally. There were many special memories that will be fondly remembered from the annual family vacations in Maine, to time spent in Boston with family.
In her leisure time, Judy loved to sew and garden. She loved to cook and bake for her family and was known for her Christmas cookies. Judy also treasured spending time with the “Tea Party Girls”-Sandy, Candy and Retha- her close group of friends who got together each week for games and tea.
Judy was predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Vernon Charles Smith and her parents. She is survived by her son, Christopher Vernon Smith (Jill Ann); her daughter, Lorraine Judith Smith (Robert Johnson, Jr.); her grandchildren, Denali, McKinley, and Jackson Smith and Abigail and Nate Johnson; and her siblings, Gerard Moran, Clare Curley, David Moran, and Joseph A. Moran, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday, January 7 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Ashland.
