Joseph E. Thompson, of Bear, Delaware passed away peacefully Thursday, July 12, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at Christiana Hospital.
Joe was born in Konnarock, Virginia on November 8, 1931 to his parents, Calvin and Cenith Thompson. Joe moved to Landenberg, Pennsylvania at an early age and found a job at the General Motors Boxwood Road plant where he worked for 44 years. Joe also devoted long hours between his job at the plant to growing and selling mushrooms for many years.
Joe touched the hearts of everyone he met. He could meet people on the street, in a shopping mall, a grocery store or just having a meal in a small cafe. He had a Southern charm that endeared him to all. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Joe will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Catherine Thompson, his children, Darlene Walls, Bonnie Waddell and Lowell Thompson and step children, David Cross, Robert Cross and Dianne Franklin, as well as 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sons, Terry and Edward and his grandson, Troy Thompson.
Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing beginning 10 am on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE.A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.
