Joan E. Lloyd

Joan Elizabeth Lloyd, age 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.  Joan was born in Wilmington to the late William and Dorothy Davis.

Joan graduated from Alexis I. du Pont High School where she met the love of her life, the late Paul J. Lloyd, whom she had been married to for 58 years.  After high school she attended the Nursing School at the Memorial Hospital, graduating in 1953.

Early in her career she worked at Memorial Hospital and then in private practice for Doctors Seeger and Hayden.  Later, she worked for the Breast Screening Project at Wilmington General; and finally, for DuPont Medical at the Wilmington, Edgemoor, Barley Mill and Chestnut Run sites.    

In her retirement years, she enjoyed trips to Florida and other locations, but her greatest joys were attending her grandchildren’s many events and family vacations to the Outer Banks.

Besides her husband who passed in 2013, she was predeceased by a grandson, Jeffrey Eastman and her brother, William Davis.  Joan was the loving mother of Paul Lloyd and his wife, Deborah; Karen Hoeschel and her husband, Peter; Kristine Eastman and her husband, Jeffrey; David Lloyd and his wife, Karyn; and Carol Benson and her husband, John. She had eleven surviving grandchildren: Kayla Lloyd, Andrew Lloyd, Nicholas Hoeschel (Amy), Eric Hoeschel (Lindsay), Brittany Eastman, Alyssa Eastman, Courtney Eastman, Lauren Lloyd, Abigail Lloyd, Brandon Benson, and Amanda Benson; and one great-grandson, Cameron Eastman and another great-grandson, baby boy Hoeschel due in February 2019. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and sister-in-law Beverly Davis.

Family and friends are invited to visit Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington on Monday, November 12th from 10:00 – 11:00 AM for visitation, with services beginning at 11:00 AM.  Interment at Silverbrook Cemetery will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association, 630 Churchmans Road, Suite 202, Newark, DE 19702.
