Helen M. McDonald, age 56, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 15, 2018 with her loving family by her side.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, Helen was the daughter of the late Margaret Jane (Sorensen) and William Joseph Brown, Sr. She was a graduate of Sharon Hill High School Class of 1979, where she played softball and was the Sharon Hill Owl Mascot. She had also attended Delaware County Community College. For many years, Helen worked as a receptionist at Friends Central in Philadelphia. She was also the softball coach while she worked at Friends Central. She later worked as a receptionist at Ursuline Academy.
Family was the center of Helen’s world. She loved spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren, as well as her siblings whom she was especially close with. In earlier years, Helen loved spending time at Wildwood Crest with her family.
In her leisure time, Helen played softball for the Sharon Hill AA for many years. She enjoyed doing ceramics, crocheting, singing, and especially shopping. Helen was an excellent cook, who was known for her amazing desserts, chicken pot pie, zucchini muffins and especially her heart attack mashed potatoes.
Helen is survived by her husband, Steven J. McDonald; her sons, Joseph D. Salerno and his wife Elizabeth and Steven Thomas McDonald; her grandchildren, Carolyn, Anna and Max Salerno; her siblings, Karen Clements and her husband Raymond, Meg Fech and her husband Dan, and William Joseph Brown, Jr. and his wife Kimberly; her brothers-in-law, Stephen King, Richard McDonald and his wife Kimberly, and David McDonald and his wife Eileen; her sister-in-law, Ann McDonald; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Kathleen King; and her brother-in-law, Gerald McDonald.
Family and friends may visit from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, September 24 at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808, where a Time of Remembrance will begin at 7 PM. Interment will be private.
