Helen J. (Graham) Daugherty

Helen Jeanette Daugherty, age 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at The Summit in Hockessin, Delaware.  She was surrounded by her loving family. 

Helen was born on June 9, 1935 in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania to Harvey and Cora Graham.  A 1953 graduate of Jersey Shore High School, Helen continued her education and after passing her state boards became a cosmetologist for Santa’s Beauty Shop in Jersey Shore.  Some years later, she became the owner/proprietor of Santa’s, from where she retired in the late 1990s. 

Helen married Phillip G. Daugherty on December 17, 1960.  Together they raised two children, Monika and Phil, Jr.  Helen was a lifelong and active member of the First United Methodist Church in Jersey Shore.  She and her husband were avid Penn State football fans!  Go Lions! 

Helen was predeceased by her loving husband, Phil; her parents, Harvey and Cora; her siblings, Dorothy, Thelma and John; as well as Eggie, her beloved Yorkie.

She is survived by her daughter, Monika (Donna) of Wilmington, Delaware; her son, Phil (Cyndi) of Montoursville, Pennsylvania; her sister, Grace Marks of Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania; her brother-in-law, Gary Daugherty (Kay) of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Sarah Mullins and Lisa Allard of Stoney Batter Family Medicine, and the staff members of The Summit and Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care.

A service celebrating Helen’s life will be held at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, 5320 Limestone Road, Wilmington on Saturday, September 7 at 11:00AM, with Pastor Patrick Downes officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in Helen’s memory to Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care or to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Thanks be to God!
