Carol Herbert Obituary

Carol Amanda Herbert, age 77, of Newark, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 4, 2018 with her loving family by her side.

Born in Beverley, England, Carol was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Gladys (Savage) Barton. She met her husband, Charles R. Herbert, while he was stationed in England with the U.S. Air Force. After moving to the United States, Carol was a homemaker and a caregiver for her four children & grandchildren, a waitress at Three Little Bakers Dinner Theater and in recent years she helped with her husband’s accounting business in Oxford, PA.

Carol’s world revolved around her family and friends, and she ALWAYS began or ended their visits with a heartfelt hug and kiss. She loved attending her children and grandchildren’s school activities and sporting events. Carol treasured her visits back to England and those to Canada to visit her family and her time sightseeing in Germany. She always looked forward to spending time with family & friends, playing a card game, sharing a good meal with a few drinks or a spin on the dance floor. Holiday gatherings were a special time that gave her an opportunity to share her many British traditions. Carol had a sentimental spirit and leaves a legacy of love and pride for her ever growing family that she supported, defended and would do anything within her power to protect.

Carol was proud of her British heritage and was a loyal member of the Daughters of the British Empire (DBE) since 1982. In her leisure time, Carol could be found watching her favorite TV shows including Fox News, talent shows and British drama, mysteries and numerous comedies on PBS/BBC (such as Waiting for God). She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching tennis and the Eagles football team. Carol loved collecting and sharing her teapots, thimbles, ladybyrds, photos, music and so many memories. She enjoyed spending time on her laptop gathering medical facts (nickname Dr Who) and scrolling Facebook to keep in touch, as well as posting her opinions and words of wisdom.

Carol is survived by her husband of 60+ years, Charles R. Herbert; her children, Linda N. Dalton (Richard), Wayne K. Herbert, Beverley C. Ferris (William), and Kenneth C.B. Herbert; her grandchildren, Robert Dalton (Christine), Terry Dalton (Nicole), Christopher Herbert (Tori), Andrew Dalton, Matthew Dalton, David Herbert (Heather), Patrick Ferris (Caitlin), Brenton Ferris, Connor Ferris, Amanda Ferris, Trevor Ferris, Kenny Herbert, Brittany Herbert and Ryan Herbert; her great grandchildren, Jarrid, Dominique, Robbie, Skylar, Dylan, Jacob, Elise, Jaxon, Zoey (due Dec), David, Evry and Miles; her sister, Susan L. Glenwright (John); and her sister-in-law, Marlene Corcoran. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Josephine M. Gray and her granddaughter, Heather Ferris.
