Stephen D.H. Chang, 73, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away with loved ones at his side on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii on February 3, 1951, he was the son of the late Wallace and Theresa (Chu) Chang.
Steve was an electrician, having owned and operated his business, Nearly Practical, Inc. for 40 years. A member of St. John the Beloved Parish, he was a very talented gardener and was skilled in growing both vegetables and flowers. He was especially proud to have cultivated many award winning orchids in his greenhouse, and enjoyed his membership with the Delaware Orchid Society. Steve was meticulous in the appearance of his property and took exceptional care of his koi pond. He was also very proud of his Chinese heritage, was an excellent cook and often infused ethnic touches in everyday dishes.
Steve will be dearly missed by the love of his life, Sheryl (Grello) Chang, his wife of 35 years; his daughter, Tara Mestre and husband, Tim; his grandchildren, Alexis Chang and Tatiana Mestre; his mother-in-law, Rose Grello; his favorite sister-in-law, Carla Fusco and husband, Michael; his nephews, Michael and Joseph Fusco; and his devoted shih tzu, Kona.
In addition to his parents, Steve was predeceased by his father-in-law, Joseph Grello.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Monday, April 22 from 9:00 – 10:45AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road at 11:30AM. Interment will be held privately.
