My sincerest sympathies to the Lambert family. I had the pleasure of meeting Rod when we were both members of the Delaware National Guard - 116th M.A.S.H in 1966. We played on the basketball team together. Rod was really, really fast. He was always smiling despite some of the situations we found ourselves in 1968. I knew that I could always bring a smile to Rod's face by talking about who was fastest - He or Mike Brown from Conrad High. A very pleasant man that I'm sure will be missed by all who loved him. God speed dear Rod. You first torched me in a 100 yard dash in back of old Duncan Hill Road school in late 1950s and relegated me to years of chasing you down 100 yard dashes and around 220s. You were a superb athlete and a great friend. You can now join our third relay member, Franny (Bill Francisco) in laps around the course in heaven. Glad we had those reunion lunches. I ran track at Mount Pleasant a year behind Rod. I looked up to him and tried to learn as much as I could about how to run the 100 and 220 yd. race. He was helpful to me, but no one in the state could beat him. He had a fifth gear he could turn on the last 20 yds. of the race. He seemed to float without any effort. Truly a joy to watch. All who remember him will miss him. Condolences to the family. He is truly an unforgettable person.

Mr. Lambert was my track coach at Padua from 1984-1988, and he was the greatest leader, motivating so many to be their best while saying so few words. Those of us who were lucky enough to have him as a coach are all better people as a result of knowing him. My heart goes out to his family during this trying time. I hope they find some solace in knowing the positive impact he left on many.

Coach Lambert was my track coach at Padua Academy. While his laid back style concerned me at first, his sense of humor, encouraging words, knowledge of the sport, and his ability to motivate a group of high school girls made him the successful coach he was. My heart is heavy with his passing, but I know he lead a full life. May his family and friends be comforted by his memories, as I will be. God bless.
