Richard P. McNamara

October 17, 1943 ~ March 20, 2017 (age 73) 73 Years Old


Richard P. McNamara, 73 of Wilmington, Delaware passed away at Christiana Hospital on Monday, March 20, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. A native of Delaware, he was born in Wilmington on October 17, 1943 and was the son of John R. and Mary (Joyce) McNamara.

Richard graduated from Salesianum High School, La Salle University and earned a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Delaware. He served in the Army reserves and was a member of Del Vets Post #1. Richard was employed with MBNA, later Bank of America, and retired from the Vanguard Group in Malvern, PA in 2010.

Richard and his wife enjoyed the beach in Rehoboth, traveling on many trips to Europe and winter vacations in Naples, FL.

Richard is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years, Eileen (Horty) McNamara; his sister, Mary Elizabeth Karpinski; brothers-in-law, James A. Horty (Norma) and Peter A. Horty (Su); niece, Caroline (Horty) Dickerson; nephews, James A. Horty III and John F. Karpinski (Genevive); great nieces, Megan Dickerson and Vetta Karpinski. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Francis J. Karpinski.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the 6th floor nurses at Christiana Hospital and to our friends for all of your kindness.

Friends are invited to the visitation at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville on Saturday, March 25 from 9:30-10:30AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Richard’s memory to the Advancement Departments of Salesianum School, 1801 N. Broom St., Wilm., DE 19802 (www.salesianum.org); or La Salle Univeristy, 1900 W. Olney Ave., Phila, PA 19141 (www.lasalle.edu).
