LaVerle M. Milan

LaVerle M. Milan (nee Barton) of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 21, 2016.

Born in Lancaster, PA, she was raised in Pottsville, PA.

Falling in love with “Johnny”, she remained by his side for 67 years of married life.  Beginning with Bolivia they also resided in the Philadelphia area and Ohio finally settling in Wilmington. 

John and LaVerle created a loving family of four children.  Being a very proud mother life totally revolved around them.  Mom-Mom to her grandchildren and great grandchildren she shared many memorable times with them.

Reading mystery stories, playing bridge, knitting, traveling with Johnny, and watching the Phillies and the Eagles were her favorite pastimes. 

Being a founding member of Saint John the Beloved she was very involved in many of the parish ministries and activities.  These included:  Eucharistic Minister, Vice president of the Altar Society, chairman of the Christmas Bazaar, Girl Scout leader, member to the Saint Vincent DePaul Society and the Leisure Group.

LaVerle is survived by her loving family:  children, Lynda Scigousky (Mark), Tony (Karen), Connie Sunderhauf (Jim), Judy Campellone (Tony); seven grandchildren, Chad Milan (Jessica), Amy (Sunderhauf) Niezgoda (Sebastian); Katie and Michael Sunderhauf; Tina, Joe and Anthony Campellone;   2 great-grandchildren, Travis and Lilly Milan; and many other family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Milan and her grandson, Keith A. Milan.

Visitation will take place at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 10:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.  Interment will be at  All Saints Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE 19808.
