Joshua L. Simon, 55, died peacefully in his sleep on December 5, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. He leaves behind his wife of 21 years, Mary Brigid McManamon, his son, Joseph McManamon-Simon, and daughter, Siobhan McManamon, his mother, Sylvia Bandler Cesanek (Wil), his father, Ben Simon (Helen Peemoeller), sisters, Lenore Simon (Mike Phelps), Rachel Simon (Hal Dean), and Beth Ellen Simon, and his mother-in-law, Ann McManamon.
Josh grew up in numerous locales in northern New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania. He was graduated from Liberty High School in Bethlehem (class of 1980) and Pennsylvania State University (class of 1984). In 1985, he moved to Wilmington to attend Delaware Law School, receiving his J.D. in 1988. He engaged in private practice locally for a few years, first with Bayard Handelman & Murdoch and then with David Staats. But Josh found his niche in the corporate world: he worked for several companies, specializing in intellectual property contracts.
Friends will remember Josh for his intelligence and his loyalty. The one trait that will be remembered more than anything, however, is his humor. His secret desire was to be a stand-up comedian, and he was happiest when he could make someone laugh.
Visitation will be held at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Tuesday, December 19 from 3:00-4:00PM, with a celebrant service immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to either Planned Parenthood (www.plannedparenthood.org), the American Civil Liberties Union (www.aclu.org), or the Cancer Research Institute (www.cancerresearch.org).
