Bernadette, you and your family are in my prayers. Jeff and I had many wonderful memories of parties and get togethers at your home. I'm so thankful that our paths crossed and there was no better place than in Asturias. Jay C will never be forgotten and neither will you.

JC Odum

JC Odum was a good man, great by many measures. JC loved his family, he loved his friends, he loved cooking, gardening, and he dearly loved music. But more importantly, he treated people well. He treated all who encountered him with dignity, respect, and compassion. In my mind, this characteristic makes him truly great man.

JC was a good cook and he loved to socialize. His signature barbeque item was a pig roast.

If you we invited to his place, you could be assured of good food, lots of it, great conversation, and entertainment. JC and his family were talented and musically oriented. JC had a sound system that truly enhanced his families’ performance.

I first met JC in Asturias, España. JC and I became a good friends and we worked together in España, Asturias Site for many years. JC was the Site Construction Manager. We interacted on a daily basis and our working relationship excellent.

I was starveling back and forth to España so I was able bring some critical items from the USA, various pots and pans, a gas tank for his rototiller, etc. I enjoyed doing and so did JC.

JC and Bernadette rented a unique old historic house, 350 years old. Old homes in Asturias did not have an address, only a name. So how do you find it? You need directions and when you get close you can ask the neighbors for the house by name and they will direct you. Everyone knows the house by name. In today’s world of GPS navigation, I wonder how you would program it.
JC loved to socialize and so did all his friends. He had a very likeable personality and blended into to the local Spanish culture very well. JC was loved by all, expiates and natives. What a loss.

I recall a great barbeque party, JC was a great cook and host. As the party began to breakup, JC asked that I stay to discuss an issue. After everyone left, JC brought out 4 bottles of some special high end spirits. I distinctly recall two of the brands, Bushmills Single Malt and Glenmorangie Malt Scotch. The idea was that we would just taste a small amount of each one and then discuss its qualities. My plans to return to my apartment that evening were not realized and I ended up sleeping over on the floor of an upstairs bedroom. It may seem uncomfortable, but I did not notice.

You couldn’t have a better friend than JC Odum.

My sincerest sympathy to Bernadette, James, Caitlin, Tara, and the rest of the family,

John Auerbach

I was shocked and saddened to see news of Jay's death. He was such a big personality and I have fond memories of his presence at different times in my life. I am also saddened with our loss of contact.
Here's hoping time and memory heals the ache in your hearts; and, for what it's worth, I will be thinking of you all.

Dear Bernadette, Caitlin and James, I write this with a heavy heart and very fond memories of Jay and the time we spent together in Luxembourg. I drove today to your house just to sit outside and think of all the good cooking he did there and the welcome hospitality he extended to our family. He was a great man with a welcome smile and infectious laugh. Our thoughts of friendship are with you in this time of profound sadness and loss.
