Senior Master Sergeant, Duilio Louis Marcon, “Mark”, 85 of Wilmington, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016. He was born on April 25, 1931 in San Giacomo, Italy to the late Giulio and Eva Arnosti Marcon.

At 1 year old, he and his mother immigrated to America to join his father who had previously set up residency in a small anthracite town called Summit Hill in Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school where he was an outstanding basketball player, Mark attended Temple University before enlisting in the US Air Force. His specialties were in administration and serving as first sergeant in both Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal, NATO-European Theater Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and 4 commendation medals. He retired after 22 years of service, and remained at Heyford Base in England where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from the University of Maryland European Division. His commencement ceremony was held in Heidelberg, Germany.

Working on base for the University of Maryland, Mark counseled and registered military personnel to further their education while serving their country. He and his wife, Bernice, resided in England for thirty years and took opportunities to travel extensively.

Reading was one of Mark’s passions. He proved himself knowledgeable in American and English history. His interests included listening to classical and big band era music, arts and crafts, calligraphy, photography, woodworking and trivia.

After the death of his wife Bernice in 2001, he resided with his sister, Oliva Bohenick of Wilmington. He is also survived by a younger brother, Rino and many nieces and nephews.

Mark was a member of American Legion Post 0039 of Bel Air, MD; lifetime member of VFW Post 10447 in RAF Upper Heyford, England; and a lifetime member of VFW Post 2863 in Richardson Park, DE.

Mark’s family would like to thank all those in the Community Living Center of the Veterans Hospital in Elsmere, DE for the excellent care during his almost 13 years of residency.
