I knew you as "Cindy" in Northridge, Claymont, DE, where we grew up across the street from each other. You were one of the older cool girls-- but you never treated me that way. I remember dancing in your basement and in my garage to 45s and "The Greatest Hits from WIBG"... pretending to have a rock band with Cheryl and Karen-- we called ourselves the "Classical Gases!" We stared at Davy Jones on The Monkees album and read Tiger Beat. Your accomplishments in life are so many-- and I am certainly one of the many in awe of those. But my favorite part of Cindy Royle is the girl who let me watch her put her hot rollers in for a date and even let me sit and talk with you and your beau for a few minutes before you left. Thank you, Cindy, for being, even in adolescence, a remarkable, empathetic and most of all, groovy chick-- who will always be a shining part of my childhood. xox

I worked closely with CynDee for 12 years at The News Journal and throughout that time I must say that she was so friendly, so caring, so interested in others that you did not realize how much inner strength she possessed. Sometimes you thought she was too good a friend to be a demanding editor, yet she always got the best out of her team and she upheld the highest journalistic principles in a demanding era. Her life was far too short. Niki and Max, my thoughts are with you.

Dear Tish and Rip,
I am so sorry to read of the death of you daughter CynDee. You must have been so proud of her. I have often wondered how you all have been.
When my dad died, Nuel told me to be thankful for the time he was with us because it could have been much shorter. In time, that thought did gave me much comfort and with time, I hope it can bring you some comfort also.
With heartfelt sympathy, Joan
