Joseph P. Grovola, age 73 of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2015.
Joe was born in Darby, PA on November 17, 1941 to the late Joseph A. and Nellie (Stankus) Grovola. He was a 1959 graduate of Saint James High School. Joe served four years in the United States Air Force as a radio relay equipment specialist in South Carolina, Morocco and Panama, most notably during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Following his service in the Air Force, Joe worked for Oppenlander’s Hi-Fi Studio in Swarthmore, PA. Joe was later employed with the DuPont Company for 33 years as an engineering technician in the Photo Products department and the Engineering Physics Lab.
Joe always enjoyed a family crab feast and his interests included electronics, collecting, model railroading and aviation.
Joe is survived by his children, Joseph M. Grovola and his wife, Kelley, and Peter Grovola; his grandson, Nicholas Grovola; his great-grandson, Santino Grovola; sisters, Ann Marie Rossi, Bernadette Bennett and Donna Bittner; brother, Michael Grovola; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Tuesday, July 7 from 5:00-7:00PM. Interment services will be held privately.
