Winifred Tan Obituary

Winifred C. Tan, age 70, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026 while admitted to Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware, surrounded by family.

Born in Elkton, Maryland, Winnie lived a life marked by love, adventure, compassion, and empathy.

Winnie devoted more than four decades of her professional life to nursing. At home, Winnie was the heart of her family — a devoted mother and wife whose love shaped every day. She poured countless hours into lifting her sons up, cheering their successes, guiding them through challenges, and standing beside them in school, sports, and life.

Winnie will be remembered for her unwavering care for others, her deep devotion to her family, and the many passions that brought her joy — from scrapbooking, cooking, and reading to painting watercolors, traveling, and sharing laughter with friends at book club, card games, and other cherished group activities.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 38 years, Lawrence E. Tan; her sons, Michael L. Tan and Alexander H. Tan; Alexander’s wife, Allysen and their daughter, Addysen Winn. She is also survived by her sister, Tina Bridgeman.

Family and friends are invited to visit at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville, DE 19807 on Wednesday, July 29 from 9:00 - 11:15AM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30AM, with interment immediately following in the parish cemetery.
