Wilson Short Obituary

Wilson A. "Poppy" Short, 88, of Newark, Delaware peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.

Will was born in Greenville on February 9, 1932, son of the late Floyd and Edith (Foreacre) Short.  He was employed with the State of Delaware, Christina School District and retired after 35 years of dedicated service. Will was a faithful member of Resurrection Parish. He was a loving, caring and giving husband who put his wife on a pedestal. After retirement, Poppy enjoyed watching his grandchildren who brought him so much joy. Poppy also was an avid sports fan of the Phillies and the Eagles. He and his bride socialized with friends at McDonald's on a daily basis.

Will is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Clara (Sanzone) Short; his son, Robert Short and wife, Bernadette; his grandchildren, Robert and wife, Emily, and Nicole; his great granddaughter, Anastasia and "Daughter Dyan".  In addition, he is survived by his sisters, Marge Wilson, Shirley Schmidt and Beatrice Gamble; his brothers, John Short and Ralph Griffin.

In compliance with current health directives, funeral arrangements will be held privately for immediate family.  A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Will may be made to Resurrection Catholic Parish, 3000 Videre Drive, Skyline Ridge, Wilmington, DE 19808.
