William Timothy "Tim" Cashman II, age 95, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 20, 2025. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on November 20, 1929, he was the son of the late Eugene R. and Pauline L. Cashman.
Tim moved with his parents to Wilmington, DE in 1944 and later attended Georgetown Preparatory School. He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 in Germany and upon return earned a BS in Business Administration from Babson College.
His career began at Merchants National Bank in Boston before he joined Sears Roebuck Acceptance Corporation, where he rose to the position of Senior Vice President and Director. In 1992, he became a founding member of Christiana Bank & Trust Company and retired as Vice Chairman in 2013.
Tim was deeply involved in his community, serving on the boards of numerous charitable organizations, including St. Francis Hospital, The Children’s Home Inc., and the Mary Campbell Center Foundation. He held voluntary positions with the Americans for the Competitive Enterprise System, the United Way Special Gifts, Delaware Financial Association, National Conference of Christians and Jews, Catholic Bishop’s Annual Campaign Fund, and the Boys & Girls Club Capital Fund.
An avid outdoorsman, Tim found joy in sailing, skiing, hunting, fishing, and golfing. He crewed in multiple ocean sailing races, including four Newport-Bermuda races, and traveled as far as the Arctic and Antarctic for fishing expeditions. He was an active member and past president of both the Wilmington Club and Vicmead Hunt Club and was a former member of Sankaty Head Golf Club in Nantucket, MA.
Tim lived in Wawaset Park for 57 years prior to moving to Stonegates in the spring of 2024. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Diana, and his sister, Joan Cashman Rolland. He is survived by his children, Tim III (Fran), Sarah Gersky (Peter, deceased), John (Marcy), and Alison Contento (Vin); his grandchildren, Tim IV, Maggie, Lindsay, Jessica, Will, Sarah, and Caroline; and his great-grandchildren, Liam and Declan. He also leaves behind his brothers, Eugene and Peter, and sisters, Nancy and Susan.
A Memorial Mass will be held on February 28, 2025 beginning at 10AM at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Catholic Church, Greenville, DE.
