William (Bill) A. Boyle Jr., age 87, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
He was born in Wilmington, Delaware on December 9th, 1937, son of the late William (Bill) Boyle and Ellen Boyle (née Kane). Bill grew up in the Forty Acres neighborhood, where his father owned Bill’s Barber Shop on Lincoln Street. He received his early education at Saint Ann School, Wilmington, DE and at Brown Vocational High School, Wilmington, DE. He spent his career as a carpenter following an apprenticeship and becoming a journeyman. He served as president of Carpenters Local Union #626 in New Castle, DE for four years and eventually retired in 1998. Bill served in the US Army from 1961 through 1967. He was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Wilmington, DE for most of his life.
He is predeceased by his grandchildren, Michael Muller and Amie Boyle; and siblings, Sheila Boyle and Ann Splane.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Ann Boyle (née O’Donnell); his children, Colleen Oetzel (Jerry), Rosemary Muller (Mike), and Bill Boyle (Lesa); his grandchildren, Katelyn, Jerry, Christopher, Patrick, and Alyssa; his great-grandchildren, Eileen, Christopher, Owen, Zoey, and Mathew Ryan; and his sister, Margaret Wagner.
Special thanks to the medical and pastoral staff at Christiana Hospital, Kentmere Rehab, and Wilmington Hospital for their patient and compassionate care.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, July 18th, 2025, from 5PM-7PM, at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 19th, 2025 at 10AM at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington Delaware 19805. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
